The Society of Ancient Scouters

The Society of Ancient Scouters was formed 1983 by five former leaders of the 10th Horsham Scouts 🔗 , Arthur Spain, Roy Bayliss, Alan Hainsworth, Jim Golding and Stewart Hughes.

A few years (well, almost a decade) later Tony Bevis and John Warburton were also invited to join.

Membership of this Society of Gentleman has only two qualifications. Firstly that you have been a leader with the 10th Horsham Scout Troop at some time in your life, and secondly (and much trickier) that all existing members of the Ancient Scouters invite you to be a member.

This is not dictated by social status, wealth or even buying existing members copious amounts of beer. In fact it is exceedingly hard to understand what dictates this choice as all existing members become exceedingly reticent when approached on this subject…

Since 1994 recruitment seems to have stagnated somewhat.

But enough, dear Reader - on to the rules of this Society

The member must attend the annual meeting each year.

As the final act of each year a member volunteers (or in some cases is volunteered by a show of hands) to organise the meeting of the following year.
